Well the album has been out for a few weeks now and the response has been a bit overwhelming. Thank you to everyone who has bought it, told a friend about it, came to our instore shows or is planning to come to any of the album tour shows. Your support is humbling. Here are some of the nice things people have had to say about Crystal Theatre:

BRAG ALBUM OF THE WEEK
Mess and Noise, On Rotation
18th May 2011

“Crystal Theatre is a sprawling, moody animal. It’s deeply, inescapably cinematic, as drenched in B-movie Americana and murder-y vibes as it is in the ’60s psych-revivalism we know and love.”
“Sweet… and terrifying”
“deliciously unsettling”
“It’s an evocative and complicated album, put together by a band who work together as naturally as four limbs on the same beast.”
Three Thousand Album Review

“Crystal Theatre threatens to fulfil all my white-pantsed daydreams”
“a much less straight-forward, much more surprising ride. Get on board.”

“the songs are simply stunning”
“Layered, beautiful and utterly absorbing, these are tracks to treasure.”
Drum Media – CD Of The Week
10th May 2011
“The result is just under 60 minutes of atmosphere and texture drowned in ‘60s suburban folk songs, topped with just the slightest hint of psych-out – think Brian Jonestown Massacre meets Fleet Foxes.”
“a nostalgically brilliant album that’s ironically way ahead of its time.”
SYN RADIO – ALBUM REVIEW

Todays album preview is a song called The Green.
From Joe: I threatened to punch Liam at three million o’clock one drunken night in Fortitude Valley when he told me he wanted to re-track The Green. I think I only popped a button off his shirt in the end (sorry mate), but I think I was right in insisting we keep it. I remember thinking the air pressure was dropping in the room around us during that outro… a sensation that became positively cyclonic when we reconvened to track The River later the same night.
And finally, as you would know by now we are playing some shows in July. Click here for tickets! Sonny and Biddy over at We Buy Your Kids, who are responsible for the album artwork, have crafted this stunning tour poster. Thinking about making them available for sale? Let us know if you would be interested in that…

Aidan: This song came out of nowhere while I was making demos for this record. I was in a particularly minimalist mood, and wanted to try to write a song with one chord. I originally sampled a jungle stomp beat fromHarry Connick Jr’s trio, and just carved out this dirty jump-step guitar line for it. Then I imagined Simon and Garfunkel singing over the top of it, and that’s more or less where we took it.

Aidan: About as close as we wanted to get to soul on the record. I wrote this as a response to Come to the Village – in a way, it’s like you are driving far far away from the village, because of what had happened there. As the song progresses, you slowly shake off the heavy feeling.
Liam: Recorded the same night as “Deepwater” in the Portland house. It’sa continuation of the cinematic imagery that we were crafting for our “dark road movie” which became this album.
